LEAD DEVELOPER. The Princeton Review, New York, NY, 2000-Present
A publicly held company, a leading provider of test preparation and college admissions services, with annual sales in the $100 million range.

As a lead developer, played a key role in the redesign of the company’s website (www.princetonreview.com) used by over 12 million people annually. This project was dubbed the most successful project in over five years by many executives in the company. Promoted from Senior Develop to Lead Developer in 2004. Among other key achievements, using my extensive knowledge of internet based software and languages were:

  • Managed and mentored an international outsourced and internal team in a major website redesign. The project included a complete re-architecting of all tiers of the project. (C#)
  • Led a combined internal and outsourced development team to the completion of a corporate wide single sign on initiative. Which handled authentication, registration, as well as centralized user profiles and permissions. This product is being used by all the The Princeton Review Website properties and intranets. (C#)
  • Key member of corporate wide architecture team, performing architectural, and code reviews, as well as defining standards for all facets of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Team Lead on a corporate software and hardware split following the sale of a division of the company.
  • Designed and architected an encryption scheme for both standalone objects and network transaction such as web services. (C#)
  • Provided architectural direction and development guidance, as well as other software engineering principles to a team of five developers leading to a more successful development life cycle.
  • Provided design and technical leadership on a cross divisional fully dynamic registration and authentication system for all systems in the princetonreview.com website using C# and VB/ASP.
  • Designed and implemented a suggestion algorithm using C#.
  • Key member of the team that worked with an outsourcing company on an enterprise level high school student management product using C#.
  • Researched and trained co-workers as division moved to an agile development methodology successfully improving the number of projects that were on time and on budget.
  • Led presentations on both UML and agile modeling to the entire development and product teams providing knowledge that has led to improvements of both product and development processes.
  • Devised a new deployment strategy which allowed the division to reduce risk and time during product deployment to the website.
  • Key member of the design team on a system that makes the selection, generation and distribution of high school transcripts from high schools to colleges or universities, digital and internet based using VB.
  • Designed and implemented a sponsored search engine that would allow results from the many searches on princetonreview.com to have paid sponsored top positions using VB.
  • Developed and implemented an email marketing system generating additional sales and income for the corporation using VB.
  • Designed, and implemented a data warehousing system for college financial lending institutions.
  • Developed and put into place an automated web based College Counselor system which generated a choice of 15 colleges based on criteria provided by the user using

WEB MANAGER. Hunter College, New York, NY, 1998-2000
A member of the City University of New York system. Employing 1000 with a student body of 20,000.

  • Developed and implemented numerous web based applications with Cold Fusion, resulting in increased efficiency throughout the college. Designed, administered and maintained the web site for the college. The college’s website received “Best in CUNY” Honors for 1998-1999 Academic Year.
  • Administered and maintained multiple Unix and Windows NT web servers. Provided training, advice, technical support, and consulting, on web related issues, to the entire college community.
  • Managed other members of the web team who assisted in producing web content for the college. Maintained and managed the college’s web based Course Management System.
  • Consulted with other departments and provided expertise in web development and web design.

OTHER EXPERIENCE

  • Developed and implemented e-commerce web applications using Cold Fusion, ASP, and iHTML. Administered HTTP, SMTP, POP, FTP, and DNS servers on Windows NT platform for Next Mall Inc, an internet e-commerce startup company. Also administered internet presence for third party clients.
    * Developed an interactive internet based pharmacoeconomic model using Cold Fusion and Visual Basic for Pharmacon International, a health care industry provider.

  • Researched and developed a massively parallel processing protocol and system using Java, for the University of Cincinnati Physics department.
  • Developed online internet games using Perl for Virtual Comics, an internet startup Company.
  • Proposed and planned the design, budget and development of their internet presence for Offray Ribbon, the world’s leading narrow fabric manufacturer. Managed their DOS, Windows and OS/2 installations. Provided PC hardware and software troubleshooting & support and developed inventory software for their Novell Network.
